It was 1994,
in lines we stood.
We voted for freedom
and it was good.
Oh, happy day
of celebration.
Our hearts united
in jubilation!
Nelson Mandela
Father of our nation
He brokered peace
it was our salvation.
Remember his legacy
keep his dream alive.
Care for the poor
and let *Ubuntu thrive.
*One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu – the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our inter-connectedness. You can’t be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality – Ubuntu – you are known for your generosity.
We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.
― Desmond Tutu
Wonderful post! I fear sometimes that as people connect more and more with
technology, we bond less with each other face-to-face and become more isolated.

Thank you, Sandy. Yes, being isolated is not a good thing. The spirit of Africa is one of connection and I hope we don’t lose it. 🙂

That’s wonderful. He was a great man, and he left a great legacy! The fact that he could forgive after what he went through, still boggles my mind.
