I planted my sorrow in trenches of light
speaking my grief on darkest nights drying my tears in the setting sun gathering in fields I became undone…
I let my broken heart
blow me wherever I sunk into the presence of the unmeasured… narrating my despair to all who heard I grasped at kindness I called on words…
I surrendered to my breath
when my doubts grew loud, recounting my blessings remembering my vows!
I paused awhile when times were tough
and started to believe that I really am enough…
There’s a part of heaven
reserved for me, it’s where I swim in an endless sea, and waves of love flow into my heart. It’s a place where we can never part… we’ll swim the tides of eternity, and be one with the joy of humanity…
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?” ― Mary Oliver
I am written into eternity
in lines of love, seen by the angels and fondly spoken of.
I’m greeted each morning
by the song of birds, gathered into being by the kindness of words.
I’m heard in the catacombs
when I silently pray, celebrated in the heavens every single day.
I’m touched by the memory
of all my joy, found in dark places I secretly avoid.
I’m comforted by the rhythm
of falling rain, saturated with love even through my pain.
Beloved by the earth
as I lay me down, adorned by nature on holy grounds.
I’m promised faith
when I cannot see, held by compassion when I can hardly breathe.
And when I’m broken
and shut in by grief, I can still sing the anthems of a higher belief…
The tragedy came to be known as the Sharpeville Massacre and it exposed the apartheid government’s deliberate violation of human rights to the world. The democratic government declared March 21 Human Rights Day to commemorate and honor those who fought for our liberation and the rights we enjoy today.
