Sunset

sunset 2Particles of sunlight
explode in my eyes.
Yonder vista glimmers
molecules alive.
Vibrant colours burst
across the fading light.
The golden orb falls silently
beckoning the night.
Touches of luminosity
embrace the lofty dunes.
The distant call of seagulls,
entice the crescent moon.
Small fish dart busily
rock pools glow sublime.
The tide gently rises
anemones entwine.
A quiet breeze caresses
the sparse emerald plants,
while herons tiptoe placidly
it requires a second glance.
As we head homeward
a fragile mist descends.
With fitting devotion
a perfect day ends!

Freedom Day

nelson mandela 2
It was 1994,
in lines we stood.
We voted for freedom
and it was good.

Oh, happy day
of celebration.
Our hearts united
in jubilation!

Nelson Mandela
Father of our nation
He brokered peace
it was our salvation.

Remember his legacy
keep his dream alive.
Care for the poor
and let *Ubuntu thrive.

*One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu – the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our inter-connectedness. You can’t be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality – Ubuntu – you are known for your generosity.

We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.
Desmond Tutu

The beat goes on….

““May your heart always be joyful. May your song always be sung.”
Bob Dylan

music 2
Present moment harmonies
wrap the air with sound.

Gloomy spirits fading
joy’s movement all around.

Soulful sounds, elated tempos
heartbeats come alive.

Swirling into forgetfulness
composure has revived.

Pianos tinkling sweet melodies
trumpets lifted high.

A harmony of instruments
melodious tones inspired.

Both in mourning and in happiness
music celebrates life

The Ceremony of Love
is a rhapsody of design.

Festivals of lyrical songs
euphoria amplified.

Music’s international discourse,
is a World unified!

Monday Melancholy

“Heaven knows we need never be ashamed of our tears, for they are rain upon the blinding dust of earth, overlying our hard hearts. I was better after I had cried, than before–more sorry, more aware of my own ingratitude, more gentle.”
Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

happiness 2
I’m lost,
astray in fields of melancholy,
unable to find the gateway
back to happiness!

I’ve misplaced
equanimity
but not
the visions of love
deeply planted in my
consciousness.

I know serenity is found
in silence.
Yet my thoughts pulsate,
they meander down
into a darkened
perspective.

I’m transfixed by
inexplicable
gloominess!

I grimace in the darkness!
Hope is a distant speck.
I can see it,
a fleck of light in pitch dark.
It’s all the light
I need…

to find my way back
to where the oceans sparkle
and noisy birds interrupt
my melancholy.

I’ll languish awhile
in this murky pool
of self pity.
But not too long,
to let it take hold
and make me bitter!

Perhaps I need
some antidote,
a sweetened balm,
some other perspective
to jolt me out of these
doldrums.

In the meantime
I’ll cherish the silence
consume some sunshine,
and stay aware of gratitude!

Sadness is the opposite
of joy.
Maybe,
I’m
just
