I am free…

“For a time, I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.”
― Wendell Berry, The Selected Poems of Wendell Berry

When I go out into the fields
I forget
the madness
I forget
the suffering
I forget
that some people hate each other
I forget
chaos
I forget
separation…
All I know in fields of wild flowers
is that I am loved
beyond measure
I am accepted
just as I am
and I am part of something bigger
than myself
I am free
I AM FREE
I am free!

I am always reminded of Wendell Berry’s poem
when I feel the call to “the peace of wild things”,
and in that moment I am free!

Love is all around…

In the struggle of the everyday
I find love
I find flowers!
When I get all choked up
I call on my
superpowers,
and I know that a force
greater than me,
exists in the rhythms
granting me peace!

At times I think out-loud and I write it down.
It serves as a remind
er that love is all around, and I can choose peace,
and then sometimes I just need to drum it into my head!

My thoughts are with you

“Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder.”
Jalaluddin Rumi

my thought are with you
Thoughts like prayers,
reach to the heavens.
Arrows fly
to descend on dwellings.
Hearts united
across the seas.
To catch compassion
in the breeze.
A caring whisper
between the miles,
and hope recovers
through the trials.
They touch the inner parts
in peace.
Kindness and
stillness are released.
And even when we’re
far from sight,
beautiful words
light up the night.

Freedom Day

nelson mandela 2
It was 1994,
in lines we stood.
We voted for freedom
and it was good.

Oh, happy day
of celebration.
Our hearts united
in jubilation!

Nelson Mandela
Father of our nation
He brokered peace
it was our salvation.

Remember his legacy
keep his dream alive.
Care for the poor
and let *Ubuntu thrive.

*One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu – the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our inter-connectedness. You can’t be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality – Ubuntu – you are known for your generosity.

We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.
Desmond Tutu
