Nature’s child

“Our task must be to free ourselves… by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.”
― Albert Einstein

On muddy embankments
where wild things roam
I have a deep sense
of being home.

Among the reeds
down by the waters,
on my knees
before nature’s altar.

On hallowed grounds
where heaven meets earth
my heart is connected
to holy mirth!

Found in translation…

“You have to keep breaking your heart until it opens.”
― Rumi

Sometimes I feel washed up
broken
and alone,
invisible of breath
hardly known.

then I plead for joy
to intervene,
to grow back into the landscape of my dreams.

to find my footing once more
to chatter with birds
until I’m restored.

to worship in forests
and find repose,
to sing
dance
and chant again in prose.

To wait for cicadas to give me rest,
and taste the sweetness
of being blessed.

The flowers have danced before my eyes,
drenched in their fragrance
I’m baptized.

I’m found in translation
of intense grief,
that even
in darkness
I still believe…

you are the light…

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
― Desmond Tutu

hold the light in tender hands
watch as love and joy expand

go on roads less traveled
keep the faith
that quietly unravels

you are the light of human eyes
you are grace
undisguised

let fear melt slowly away
and gather the memories
of those who pray

let your love be as confetti
and be the kindness that is never empty
