“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
–Desmond Tutu
I thought I had lost kindness
in the madness of this life.
I felt quite brokenhearted,
when observing so much strife!
I saw the lonely struggle,
and the homeless being thrown away.
The fatherless on the sidewalk,
in rejection gone astray…
But then I found kindness,
a dolphin saved on the beach.
A stranger helped a motorist,
when her friends were out of reach.
There’s the firefighter who rescued a tortoise,
from the stifling flames.
A Grandmother who took in orphans
with meager earnings she’d saved.
They reported a group of citizens
who formed a human chain,
in streets of rising water,
just strangers with no names!
The story of school leavers,
who donated shoes and uniforms
to those with few resources!
A poor community transformed…
Bravely, men climb mountains,
and some sail the globe alone,
many walk through foreign countries
with charity their goal.
Kindness is found in many places,
sometimes where dreams have died.
Those unexpected places,
a smile you shouldn’t hide.
My quest is to be brave in the darkness,
and do those little things.
Those miraculous and divine encounters,
that pull the heart strings…
…and should we be in mourning
for those who don’t believe,
that there’s love in every human?
Show them kindness, let it be received…

Thank goodness kindness remains even if we lose sight of it for awhile. 🙂

Very beautiful and deep poem! We certainly need to be more kind to one another. I especially love these lines, “Kindness is found in many places, sometimes where dreams have died.”
