National Women’s day…

Lest we forget…

womans day

The holiday commemorates the national march of women on this day in 1956 to petition against legislation that required African persons to carry the ‘pass’. The ‘pass’ was an identification document which restricted a black South African’s freedom of movement under apartheid.

Reminders written in chalk…

white cliffs

On distant shores
where the turquoise sea
beats the land
into submission
and chalk cliffs crumble
unafraid…
I’m transported to the
remembrance of
summer,
written in chalk
on my heart of longing,
as I go back in time…
to vistas where my ancestors stood and surveyed the breath
of a green and pleasant land,
promises of yesteryear
carved out by skeletal remains…
I yearn
to beat
a path back to them…

I wrote your name…

“We are travelers on a cosmic journey, stardust, swirling and dancing in the eddies and whirlpools of infinity. Life is eternal. We have stopped for a moment to encounter each other, to meet, to love, to share. This is a precious moment. It is a little parenthesis in eternity.”
― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

wrote your name in the sands

I wrote your name
into the sands,
on long beaches
where seagulls land…
can you see
from where you are
my bold strokes, this brief memoir?
The effervescence
of radiant shores,
brings peace and joy
and faith restored… in ripples
of unforgiving tides,
blessings
still, flow
deep and wide…
Tomorrow
your name
may wash away,
and I’ll continue to celebrate,
Because you’re always on my mind,
most beloved
eternal child…

When you found me…

“Some people are truly beautiful. The light of beauty shines through their souls. And the world gets drenched in their inimitable light of love.”
― Avijeet Das

When you found me
in the darkness,
you brought me
back to life,
with calming reassurance
and I knew I had arrived…
so I reached towards the heavens
where vibrant colors fuse…
realizing it’s possible
that you’ve always been my muse?

Dear Natalie
Oh, how I miss you, my sweet friend,
please say it’s not the end…
of the glorious scent of your perfume,
in gardens
where we rendezvoused…
of listening tones
assuaging my groans,
with your soft voice,
you dulled the noise…

Across immense oceans,
I felt your warm devotion…
in sympathetic words
showing me concern…
I miss your loving presence,
you’ve always been a blessing…

though you’ve changed into light
your radiance is still so bright,
I feel you gently breathing, in gardens of Eden
until we meet again, on this journey that has no end…….

She gave him to the waters…

May you be blessed with a wise and compassionate guide
who can accompany you through the fear and grief
until your heart has wept its way to your true self.
― John O’Donohue, To Bless the Space between Us: A Book of Blessings

gave him to the waters

she gave him to the waters mixed with her tears,
she gave him to the Universe,
to all that coheres…
she let him be free
to explore celestial realms,
she knew the winds would return him when she was overwhelmed…

She touched the ocean, to feel his immortal essence;
she sensed his aura
in sunlight’s fluorescence…

The rains immersed her
in sacrificial response,
allowing deeper meaning
when grief became prolonged…

He is all the colors of prismatic skies,
ever watchful….
he speaks
through butterflies…

He returns to her each morning,
before she awakes,
collecting her tears,
he leaves a cosmic trace…
vowing to never leave her
he is effulgent light,
arousing consciousness,
renewing her delight…

vibrations within her
remind her
she’s not alone
with the kindness of Angels, she is greatly bestowed…

Butterfly effect…

So I skipped two days of Poetry Month….tra la la…
now for a sad poem…hold your breath!

shrine 2

My son went to the afterlife
and I must carry on…
his presence
still lingers
though his body is gone…
and I live each day with his memory
emblazoned on my mind,
keeping his treasured kit
in a beloved little shrine…
and some may think I’m crazy,
completely off my head,
but these are the things that enable me, to get out of bed…
and I wake
each morning
with sunlight in my eyes,
hoping it’s just a dream
and he’ll materialize…

In the heart of the City…

“And we wept that one so lovely should have a life so brief;”
― William Cullen Bryant
in the heart of the city
In the heart of the city
we found gold,
broken by sorrow
our tears overflowed… Your form was missing
though your spirit was there,
our hearts are still beating
sustained by prayer…
We honor this journey
and sing your praise,
deep within us
where you left a trace…

I feel the emotion of form…

like minds

I can still hear the sound of your voice in my head,
regretting the things, which we left unsaid.
I’ve seen you in my dreams,
speaking out love,
in diaphanous streams.
Your fragrance is everywhere,
in the cool of morning,
in the midnight air.
And even when sorrow is rife
and it steals my sleep
lays waste to my life,
I feel the emotion of form
the soft glow of a gentle morn,
when birdsong is at its best
as I wake
in an unholy mess,
my life overflowing with tears,
sinking into my greatest fear.
There’s a memory of still afternoons,
when sunlight kissed the cinnamon dunes,
and the ocean received your body
while waves absorbed my tears,
I heard your song of freedom
whispering in my ears.
Now you dance in cosmic vistas, far from Earthly pain,
your spirit forever soaring,
this remembrance remains.
Your path festooned with flowers, as far as the eye can see
in a star bedazzled Universe,
of eternal reveries.
